Attachments, but not in your email

Generally speaking, the Law of Attraction, which states that like attracts like, works for what you attract. For example, one expression of the law is that those who are on the good side of the good/evil continuum will attract the good spirits, because they’re similar on the good/evil continuum. But the law is much more subtle than the expression above would indicate. “Like attracts like” is the way things generally work, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible for a good person to attract an evil person. It can (and sometimes does) happen, particularly if the good person exposes themselves to evil people, for whatever reason, inadvertently or not.

One of the problems surrounding mediumship, and dealing with the spirit world in general, is the quality of what you attract, or perhaps more accurately, what attracts to you.  You can be a good person, or maybe somewhere in the middle of the continuum, and if you go exposing yourself to negative places/people, you can easily pick up a negative attachment. “Attachment” is a general term to refer to anything/anyone that hangs around/stays around you – attaches, so to speak. An attachment might be a person or persons, or perhaps just energy (vibration). Attachments can occur with anyone, whether they’re a medium, or not.

Here is an article that got me thinking about all of this.  I have no idea of what kind of person Zak Bagans is, and I’ve never seen his Ghost Adventures show, but it doesn’t matter. What does matter is this snippet from the article:

Has this affected you personally? I have a lot of problems in my house. I can’t have a girlfriend. I have a territorial female spirit that will not let me date any girls, and if I do, the [spirit] pushes them down the stairs. I’ve seen a girl do a tug of war with a purse in just air. So it is scary.

Reasonably assuming that he doesn’t want the spirit woman around in the first place, it isn’t good. Looks like a case of negative attachment to me. And there are other problems that are not mentioned. I daresay that he picked up these problems in the course of his ghost adventures. Unfortunately, the logic is very simple. If you’re cleaning people’s out houses all day, then you have to take a really good shower afterward, lest any of the “materials” you’ve been working with remain on you. If you’re cleaning the out houses of the spirit world, it’s another thing altogether, and taking a good shower isn’t so easy to do.

Frodo and the Black RidersAt the risk of offending Mr. Bagans, I can’t help but think about Frodo Baggins from Lord of the Rings. Seems to me that both Zak and Frodo have negative attachments.

In any event, I’ve sent some good thoughts his way, and hopefully, some of his problems clear up. I hope you send good thoughts too.

Catching the Collector

While I’m flipping through channels on tv, I notice that now there are a lot of shows, particularly reality and paranormal shows, about spirits/ghosts/mediumship/etc. As a medium, you might think I’d be interested in these shows, but to be honest, I’m not. Generally speaking, I don’t think they’re very good. Without getting into details, I’ve seen misguided efforts, from people who don’t know what they’re doing. So I rarely watch any of them.

But tonight I happened to catch a bit of the Firestarter/Haunted Museum episode on Haunted Collector, which is on Syfy. In one of the segments, there was negativity in a house in Connecticut, and the team discovered a broken Ouija board in the house. They took it to a SME (Subject Matter Expert) who was experienced with spirit boards. She described a bit about how spirits can attach to certain things. Afterward, they removed the board from the house, the negativity went right along with it, and things were better.

If I were able to add anything to that segment, I would say that in this case, the problems were directly connected to the spirit board, but one should not jump to the conclusion that all such spirit boards are negative, or have negativity around them. Ultimately, the board is merely a door. Think of it this way. If a door opens to the out house instead of the finest restaurant in town serving your favorite food, should you blame the door? The problem is not with the door per se, it’s with what’s behind it. Important distinction. On the one hand, I’m glad they said nothing about it, but on the other hand, saying nothing could lead someone to that conclusion, hence my desire to qualify it.

Anyhow, I thought they did a pretty good job, particularly compared to other shows I’ve sampled, and the SME was good. If you’re so inclined, you might want to check it out.

Who you gonna call?

Spirits are like Earth plane people in that you don’t mind the ones you like hanging around, but there are others that you can’t stand and want no part of. When the latter are hanging around and causing problems, the subject of ghostbusting comes up.  The Ghostbusters movies put ghostbusting  on the map, but I don’t know whether it was good for ghostbusting or not. On the one hand, people now know what it is, beyond a doubt. All you have to do is ask “who you gonna call?” and they immediately respond with the answer. It has established the word over other choices such as “spirit removal”,  “spirit clearing” , or “spirit cleansing”, which are still used, but don’t convey meaning as quickly or precisely as “ghostbusting” does. But on the other hand, it makes it easy for the unaware/uneducated to think that the whole thing is just funny and ridiculous, and not real or possible.

Be that as it may, there are people who are sincerely involved in ghostbusting. For example, there is a group in Manila (Philipines) called the Spirit Questors. This is a long article, but overall, is a worthwhile read. If you don’t know their language, you have to skip over a few words here and there, but it’s no big deal, I don’t think you’re losing much. Of course, I don’t know their language, so I don’t really know if I’m missing much 😉

The Spirit Questors’ perspective is that spirits don’t necessarily have to be banished, and coexistence is possible. I agree. Peaceful coexistence doesn’t always work, but it’s a good place to start from. Generally speaking, it’s easier for the spirits to change or relocate than it is for the Earth plane people, so you usually start with them first. And Earth plane people need to know that typically, the only situations that warrant ghostbusting are ones in which people are getting scared, threatened, or having similar problems and unrest. It is not about removing spirits who aren’t causing problems in the first place.

Ghostbusting doesn’t often make it into my blog, but I find it interesting. I’ve done my share of it. It is rewarding, and I’ve discovered that I have a bit of a knack for it. Having said that, I maintain my view that it is not for the ego-driven, and not for the sensationalist, but it is worthwhile work. One of the best parts of it is that it presents opportunities to educate people about spirit existence and mediumship.

Medium’s Thanksgiving

From a mediumship perspective, here are some things I’m thankful for on Thanksgiving:

1. The presence of God in my life.  That presence that lets me know that life is a forward and uplifting progression towards goodness and spirituality, even when it does not feel that way in a particular moment.

2. The Very Important People (VIPs) in my life.  My wife, children, parents, family, friends.  Strictly speaking, they are largely unrelated to mediumship, but nonetheless, they are very important.  Experiences with them through time have taught me valuable lessons about life, love, and spirituality, which are important ingredients in mediumship.

3.  Assistance from my spirit folks.  They have provided guidance, assurance, and the butt-kicking (when necessary) to help me progress in life.

4. Communication with my spirit folks.  We work together to communicate better and better through mediumship.  I am thankful that they listen to what I have to say, and are willing to work with me.

5. The trust that I’ve developed with my spirit folks.  Building trust involves a lot of work, patience, and desire.  It requires a lot of investment from their side.  And it’s a choice on their part, not a given.  I am grateful that were willing, and appreciate the positive effects of it that show up in my mediumship and in my life.

6. The good works that I’ve been involved with via mediumship.  Healing.  Message work.  Readings.  Writing.  Channeling.  Spirit removal (Ghostbusting).  Guiding and teaching others.  All of these are rooted in goodness, are satisfying to be involved in, and are tightly integrated with the spirits – both my folks and others.

7. My dreamwork.  My dreams are very vivid, and the spirits often use my dream time to take me places, show me things, and teach me things.

8. That I live in a country where mediumship is no longer persecuted.  I am thankful that I do not live in fear of being burned at the stake.

9. That I am a medium.  While one can certainly get along in life without mediumship, I wouldn’t want to.  Mediumship has a mystery and beauty all its own, and I am thankful that it has a presence and a large role in my life.

10. For the people I have met and worked with along the way.  I have learned so many things from my peers in classes.  As time passes, some of them go different ways, and I probably won’t see them again while I’m still here on the Earth plane, but they will always have their special places in my heart.

11. For the future.  Despite what people say about psychics and mediums predicting the future, the future is, by and large, unwritten.  I rather like it that way.  Even without knowing what will happen next, I am sure that the future will involve goodness, spirituality, and mediumship, and for this, I am thankful.

Almost 1 in 3

While browsing an article about ghost hunting, I found something interesting:

“Before you scoff, know this: About 3 in 4 Americans profess at least one paranormal belief, according to a 2005 Gallup survey. About 37 percent of Americans believe in haunted houses, and 32 percent believe spirits of dead people can come back in certain situations.”

If you take the last statement to mean a belief in mediumship, then we’re almost 1 in 3 …

Ghosts and Ghostbusting

Buffalo (NY) got itself on an episode of Ghost Hunters, and the episode ran tonight.  Some people really like phenomena, but for me as a medium, I don’t watch these shows.  For me, the question of whether the shows or the evidence is “real” or “legitimate” is not particularly relevant.  It’s enough for me to know that phenomena exists, no doubt in my mind, whether they’ve actually recorded it on their show or not.

I have more interest in the things that indicate intelligence and communication, as opposed to being provided evidence that spirits exist.

Spirits have as much right to exist in a place as we do, but when the situation becomes threatening (to either party) things need to be done.  It’s commonly called “ghostbusting” or spirit removal, but I think that’s a little limiting – it gives an image of exterminators coming to rid your house of pests. Unlike pests, it’s fairly possible for spirits and Earth plane folks to coexist peacefully, as not all “hauntings” are negative/nasty/evil.

It seems to me that shows of this type often have mediums come in and say “yep, you’ve got ghosts”, but they don’t do anything to solve the problem – they just walk away.  I’ve done some work in this area, and it is possible to make improvements and “solve” the problem.

Let’s take a moment to send a thought of peace and harmony to all spirits and Earth plane folks who are living together in disharmony….
